Yeah, you don’t just ask for a huge bump and say, “Because I deserve it.”
Capture and share all of the ways you’ve been delivering value way above and beyond your current role and compensation.
Then, pitch the ambitious role that you want to play in the company and how you’ll deliver even more value.
Finally, and only after the above, talk about what you think that level and comp should look like.
Basically:
- Get them agreeing and nodding their heads to acknowledge how great you’ve been.
- Get them excited and wanting the future you’ve described and how you’re key to making that happen.
- Close the deal with the role and comp bump that aligns with that increased value.
But, never threaten, “Pay me more or I quit.”
No manager likes that or can give into that.
