That’s a great strategy. I prefer the 1-on-1 conversations too.

When a big important meeting is coming up, it helps to have short meetings with key allies ahead of time. It also helps to have a heart-to-heart meeting with people you suspect may oppose your position, so that you can understand each other better.

Have the discussions, gather input and feedback, and build support before you walk into the crowded room later.
