I never trust any company and I always use multiple services and have backup plans.
I've been writing here for many years and I am thankful for the audience I've built. But, I've also watched my story views drop lower and lower over the years even as my audience grew.
So, I diversified and started a newsletter on Substack almost 2 years ago. Within 6 months, my revenue from Substack was 9X my Medium revenue. Plus, I own my audience and can take my readers with me from platform to platform.
So, now I just treat Medium as one of many publishing channels for my work. I publish here, Substack, my own blog, LinkedIn, Ghost, and a little on News Break. I'm also turning my stories into books.
Don't get too attached to one platform. Rules change and you are never in control. That makes you vulnerable. I hate feeling vulnerable. 🤣
