Having a technical co-founder is essential. You need somebody to own the history of your codebase. If you don’t have a technical co-founder, then progress comes to a halt as soon as you can’t pay an engineer. Technical co-founders also make it easier to hire the right talent.
I agree. In fact, if you don’t have a technical co-founder, don’t move forward until you do. Don’t raise money. Don’t hire engineers thinking that they can play that role. They cannot and will not. As you suggest, a technical co-founder has skin in the game and will work with you side-by-side to bring the vision to life the right way, even before you’ve raised money. Partner first, hire later.
