Great approach to resolving conflict. I like to keep moving up the hierarchy of goals until we reach those that we both fully agree we are committed to pursuing.
The disconnect and disagreements seem to originate from lower-level, more personal goals. You still have to resolve those issues, of course. But, as you say, it’s better to start from common ground.
