Exactly. You have to be as serious about making time for your health as you are about making time to run your business, because if your health fails, the business will fail too. Your health is the base of your pyramid. You can’t be the best at anything else if your physical base is crumbling.
I had the same realization a little over 5 years ago. Working long hours for many, many years had taken a huge toll on my health. I never made time for exercise, I ate crappy food in endless lunch meetings, and I was overweight. One day I just took a hard look at myself and I said; “I’m going to die if something doesn’t change.”
So, I started eating healthier and exercising every day. I dropped 40 lbs over the course of the year. I’ve ended up being stronger, healthier, and more capable now than when I was 20 years younger. It feels great and it’s had an incredibly positive impact on my attitude, self confidence, and productivity too. After 5 years, I’ve stuck with the health eating and exercising 4–5 days a week. I’ll never go back to sacrificing my health again.
