Absolutely agree. We made this mistake. As you mentioned, sometimes local talent is really hard to find. So, we ended up with a distributed team.
Slack, video chats, and monthly visits helped. But, we really needed everyone together for frequent whiteboard sessions, building the culture, and maintaining a better rhythm and velocity.
I think distributed virtual teams can be a great way to scale the company. But, only after you’ve established a core working leadership team and your product has achieved product-market fit.
